Our Spontaneous Trip...

Ben was making his plans to travel to California for a week on business and I wasn't to exited about staying home alone with the kids. I had an idea to load up and head to San Diego to visit "the cousins." Of course when I ran it by Amelia she was thrilled and the first thing that came out of her mouth was "we can go to the beach!" I also thought it would be fun for Grandma to come as well, for support and help with the trip- she was thrilled too! We had a blast and as always it takes me about a week to recoup from all the hustle and bustle at the Drew residence. I like to think of it as boot camp in preparation for when our kids get older; as for now we are just a mellow bunch! We would like to send a special thanks to the Drew's for a wonderful week in California, we love you guys!

She loved playing in the sand and getting as dirty as she possibly could. I really had to "unclench" because my compulsive side wanted to come out so bad but I just remind myself that we were at the beach and getting dirty was all part of the fun!

Now Carter was a different story, he didn't get too dirty he just wanted to chase the birds and the life guard jeep!

One HOT Mother's Day!

My wonderful husband made Mother's Day special once again. Just a recap for those who didn't already know, for Mother's Day the past 2 years Ben has taken me to the Rhododendron gardens in Portland to see all the beautiful flowers in bloom. This is something I have requested because I enjoy spring time so much.
Well as you all know we no longer live in Portland and since traveling there for Mother's Day was out of the question Ben decided to take me and my Mom (who lives in Phoenix now) to the Desert Botanical garden in Phoenix. I was thrilled to go since I have never seen a saguaro in bloom. Much to my surprise the Garden has seasonal exhibits and they had Chihuly: The Nature of Glass on display. It was utterly fascinating to see all his handblown glass!
On the nature side we saw some pretty interesting things- lizards that would walk right up to you, squirrels, pigeons that wouldn't fly away when you came up to them, turtles and we even went into the butterfly pavilion. I'm not going to say it wasn't a HOT one but we went early enough to miss the extream heat!
I couldn't think of a better way to celebrate Mother's Day... thank you Ben for showing me the real beauty of this day and making my life full of richness, I love being a Mommy to our children and I love you more than words can possibly say!

We Love the Cubbies!

We decided since we live in Phoenix now and have access to so many great amenities that we would make it a tradition to take the kids to see the Cubs games when they are in town. This was Amelia's second year; we decided that Carter is still too young to go this year. We had such a great time with Amelia. We ate hot dogs, popcorn, fun dips, cotton candy and sunflower seeds. Our seats were right above the Cubs bull pin so Ben and Amelia watched the pitchers warm up, one of them even threw her a ball. I think that was the high light of the game, she wouldn't let anyone hold the ball but her. We can't wait till next year when we can take Carter!
